33 weeks and counting...

I am sorry I haven't updated earlier this week, but life just gets away from me sometimes. I was 33 weeks on Friday June 11th and had our most recent ultrasound that day. More on that in a bit.

1st off after posting from my last non-stress test we found out that baby A's amniotic fluid was high enough not to worry about early delivery. Apparently, the nurse that worked with me on Friday wasn't as familiar with doing a NST for twins and didn't know what to look for exactly. Luckily the original nurse I had the 1st time I went in was there on Tues and Friday this past week and she has 35yrs experience as an OB nurse. She is super nice and always knows what to do so I can get in and out of the appointment quickly. I will continue to go in every Tues and Friday for NST (non-stress tests) until I deliver.

The ultrasound on Friday went well, both babies continue to grow which is a good sign for us since the doctors told us that baby B would most likely have passed away by now or not continue to grow at the same rate as baby A. They still say that the probability that baby B will survive after birth is very low and we are trying to prepare for that outcome but at the same time hoping and praying for our own miracle that he/she will have a different mission to fulfill in this life. Now the stats...

Boy is measuring 32 weeks 3 days
Baby B is measuring 33weeks exactly
Boy weighs 4lb 7 oz
Baby B weighs 4lb 10oz
Boy's heart rate 129 bpm
Baby B heart rate 138 bpm
Boy is in the 38th percentile for growth
Baby B is in the 46th percentile for growth

We also noticed that baby B's left kidney now has more fluid in it than the right one and asked the doctors if we needed to take the babies at 34 weeks rather than wait until after 36 weeks. We are problem solvers and felt that if one kidney was bigger it may help to take the babies earlier so they could hopefully fix baby B's blockage to not have any further damage to the kidneys. They told us that the damage to the kidneys has already happened and taking the babies early will not help that outcome but possibly cause other issues to be present from premature delivery. After talking about different options it was determined that we will try to plan an induction of labor sometime between 36 -37 weeks. They will check with the doctor we have chosen to see what his schedule looks like to get everything planned. We want to plan the labor if possible so that if baby B doesn't survive we can have our family there to meet them before they pass away. We will continue to pray to see if our Heavenly Father has a different plan and if we need to adjust the time table but for now we both felt that I would go into labor prior to 37 weeks on my own thus the plan to schedule delivery just before. Obviously, we understand that I could still go into to labor anytime between now and then but this will at least give us something to work towards.

People always ask "how are you feeling" I have started responding "I feel pregnant!" I think that explains it all... I feel big, uncomfortable, parts of my body that shouldn't hurt do, I have a hard time walking even short distances sometimes but overall feel blessed to have this opportunity to carry these babies. It is such a miracle to be able to feel their movements and know that they will be able to fulfill their individual missions when they are born. There are many that won't have this opportunity and at one time I was one of them, so I know what some of that feels like. So, I am not taking this opportunity for granted. I feel like I am growing a little everyday and am starting to feel both babies more frequently. Even baby B is starting to move his/her head and feet more and I can feel more movement than I have in the past. Our little guy is always moving and sometimes moves so much my belly looks like I have a half of a tennis ball on top of it!

I have had some requests for an updated picture so here are a couple from 33 weeks.

We are as always extremely grateful for the support of our wonderful family and friends! We can feel your love, concern and prayers as we continue this journey. Thank you!

Realizations this past week...

I thought I would post some of my fun realizations this week. I am sure many of you can relate!

Hopefully you will smile a little bit!

Within this last week…
  • I started getting cankles - you know where it looks like my feet are connected to my calves and no longer to my slender ankles. I miss them! :)
  • My feet no longer fit in my shoes - they puff up over the top of my shoes and they look like mushroom tops!
  • Brad affectionately told me I started waddling like a duck.
  • Realized that finding a comfortable position to sleep in is never happening again.
  • At the end of working all day it feels like the babies are going to start coming "out" a little with each step!
  • I am SOOOO tired because...finally after trying to find a comfortable position all night I am so worn out by 5am I at last fall to sleep. So when the alarm goes off at 7am I have just barely slept 2 hours.
  • This is only going to get worse!

However, with all of this I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to finally be a mom and feel very blessed!! Most of all because Brad still thinks I am beautiful! I love it when he rubs my tummy and says "You have a cute preggie belly!" or "You are such a cute pregnant mom!"

Brad has also been an amazing support during the entire pregnancy, with all the bed rest I have been on and limits on activities, he has never complained. He has always been a great help around the house but in the past 7+months he has done most all the cooking, vacuums and sweeps the floor, does the grocery shopping and does all the laundry - while also setting up the nursery, moving furniture around, and finishing the playroom. He is an amazing husband and my best friend! I am truly blessed!

Hope you all have a great day!

Pregnancy moments...

I thought I would blog about a couple experiences as I am remembering them during this pregnancy.

First experience happened when we were traveling to Colorado Springs to look at some rental and investment properties on April 9th. We were sitting in the airplane and I looked down at my belly and saw it move for the first time, visually, when it was kicked. I promptly grabbed Brad's hand and he was able to feel our little boy kick and was also able to see the movement visually on my belly for his first time. It was a great moment for both of us! Here are a few pictures from that moment.

A funny side note...when Brad and I got to the airport that morning (a bit later than expected) we found that the security line was almost to the doors where you enter the airport. We only had 30 min before our flight left (I know we cut it way to short) and by the time we asked several people, super nicely, to let us go ahead of them we missed our flight by 2 min, they had just closed the doors! That was the first time I have EVER missed a flight. Nothing like spending 3 hours on those comfortable chairs at the airport, 6 months pregnant, as we waited for the next flight. And to top it all off, we had turbulence and they told us we could not get up to use the restroom or walk around. I had been cautioned by several people, along with my doctor to get up and walk around every 45min so this was not good news for me. Luckily, the nice flight attendant had mercy on the pregnant lady and allowed me to get up and walk around! Good memories though! We still laugh about it and had a great time!

Keep in mind this is my cell phone camera and I am taking self portraits.

Second experience happened last week as I was leaving work. Just a quick history - my ankles roll all the time but when you add a few extra pounds, most of it in front this is bound to happen... right? Anyone remember this post? :)
Well you guessed it, I was stepping off the curb and my right foot rolled all the way to the right side and I scraped the top of my foot...seriously still can't figure out how that happened. (see picture below) Then as I brought my left foot down to stabilize myself it rolled the opposite way to the left and I ended up on the ground. I landed on my right hip, I think, it happened so fast - it is all still a blur. The only thing I remember is exactly how my ankles twisted, random eh? AND the look on the woman's face as she watched me fall from her car as she was driving by.
Priceless!

The woman mentioned above stopped her car close by and came back to see how I was, along with another woman who was passing by and a nice young man in his early 20's. This young man was sweet enough to help me up and get me settled sitting on the curb to wait until my ankles stabilized. I told the ladies thanks for stopping but that I would be ok and they left. Then about 10 min later this young man let me hold on to his arm as we crossed the street to my car. I felt so old at that moment - like my old grandma needing help to cross the street, it was a bit embarrassing. However, as I look back, I am grateful for the compassion of a young man who went out of his way to help and 2 nice women who stopped to see if all was well. Another tender mercy...

(I had just taken off my brace to take this picture, again with my cell phone. It was still a bit swollen but not as bad as the picture looks - just wanted to document where I scraped my foot)
More fun stories to come...

Every calling has a time and season...

I was released as Young Women's president in my ward this past Sunday. I found out last Tuesday and since then a flood of emotions have filled my heart. While it was definitely overwhelming at times, the opportunity to see the girls grow in their testimony of the gospel, discover who they REALLY are and the love they shared with me made it all worth it!

I knew the Sunday before camp (June 14th) as the girls stood to say the theme that this would be one of the last times I would have this experience with this group of girls - and of course I cried. But I don't think you can ever be prepared to be done, after putting my whole heart into this calling for the last 2+ yrs it will be hard to just stop doing it. I know that my time has ended and I already feel the mantle of this calling leaving. It is interesting that after so much focus I didn't realize how tired I was. Heavenly Father really does bless us in our callings to have all the energy we need to accomplish everything that is required. Now that it is ending my body is telling me that I need a break. So, it is a bittersweet end and a new beginning for myself and the girls. I will miss them dearly. I am so grateful I had one more camp with these girls, (it was my 3rd) we had a great time! I also hope my service was pleasing to my Heavenly Father and that I did all I needed to in the time I was given. I gained some incredible friendships as part of this calling and will be forever grateful for the lessons I learned and the experiences I had both personally and spiritually. I am excited for the new presidency, all are dear friends, I know they will do a fantastic job!

A special thanks to my presidency, advisors, & specialists over the past 2yrs, some have come and gone but have left their footprint on my heart! They were each unique and brought a special spirit to the Young Women program while they served. They made countless sacrifices to serve faithfully. I love you and couldn't have made it through without you!

Thanks to all my friends and family who supported me throughout the past 2+ yrs. The phone calls, guidance/advice, emails, hugs, and kind words. They were appreciated!

On to my next adventure...

Race for Cure - May 9th

Every year we try to go to the Susan G Komen Race for the cure with some friends. It is a great way to support breast cancer awareness and also support our friends that have lost love ones to breast cancer. The amount of people that come each year is incredible and the strength you feel walking in such a large crowd is amazing. I wish I had taken more pictures of the different t-shirts and outfits people wear. There are men wearing pink tutu's, others wearing pink wigs and some just decked out in all pink! What a sight!

This year we walked the 5k with Kim, (her kids Lauren & Isabella), her sister Heidi and Charity one of the special needs clients Heidi works with. Charity walks almost every year with us as well. You can't read Heidi's shirt in this picture but it says "Of course these are fake, the real ones tried to kill me!" We had a great time! Next year I think Brad will run the 5k with Cesar and Sam. (Kim's husband and 5yr old son)

Isabella enjoying a nap!

Lauren eating fruit by the foot!

The amount of people walking this year was incredible. You can see all the way to the end of the picture-tons of pink! Several blocks a head of us were full of people...

Another view of the crowd in front of us.
The crowd behind us at least 3 blocks or more.

After the event at the Gateway fountain area...

Anyone is welcome! Let me know next year if you want to join us. It is typically the Saturday before Mother's day.

Month in Review...

Since I have been absent from the blogging world for over a month I thought I would do a quick recap of what has been going on.

BABY BLESSING
Maya's baby blessing was this past Sunday. It was great to support a friend and her family. I wish I could have went to her home afterward but we had a family dinner to get to.

STATE OF PLAY
Also, this past weekend we went to see a movie. We hadn't BEEN to a movie in the theater for a while, it was nice to go on an official date. We decided to see the movie State of Play. It was a surprisingly good movie and we both enjoyed it. It may have been the low expectations we had before going but we weren't disappointed.

MY BROTHER
I did a post on my brother Lance last year about his struggles with drug addiction. And while he was unable to stay clean during his last release he was able over this past year to complete his sentence for good. He was released last week and is not longer on parole. He is finally in a place where he really wants to change his life and start his own family.

He agreed to go to a drug rehab in Long Beach California and has been there a week. So far he is doing great! He has been drug free for a year and they are working with him to stay that way. He has a girlfriend named Ashley who is super supportive and they seem really happy. Lance wrote me yesterday and he is running on the beach every morning, they are taking him body surfing today and he want to an Angels baseball game 2 nights ago. The goal of this rehab is to help the clients learn to have fun with out being high and to learn life skills that they haven't mastered yet. They will help him get a job locally and if he wants to go to school help him with that as well. I am excited for this new chapter in his life and our family is praying for his success!

WICKED!!
The highlight of this past month was going to see WICKED here in Utah. They are performing here for about 5 weeks. We stumbled upon an opportunity to get tickets with our dear friends Tim, Hilary and 3 of their darling daughters. We had a great time!

I know the show is sold out but if you have the chance to go DO IT! It was amazing! Even better than when we saw it in New York. Glinda's voice was incredible and she was so witty and clever with her portrayal of the character! We laughed almost the entire time. Even Brad gives it 2 thumbs up for the 2nd time.

EASTER
We had a fantastic Easter lesson for the YW by Brother Dallon. He did a great job helping the girls (and leaders!) understand the true meaning of Easter and why our Savior did it all for us. He really explained things in a simple, yet meaningful way and we all left filled. He has an incredible testimony of his Savior and were blessed to hear him teach.
We then headed to my parents for Easter dinner. We loved having the traditional deviled eggs and my mom's YUMMY strawberry pie!! Of course, with my brother's release a few days later my mom forgot we were all coming, so we had hamburgers and hot dogs! We still enjoyed ourselves and the food as well as conversation was fantastic! Love you mom and dad!
FAMILY DINNER
We had a family dinner with my cousin Troy and his family (minus Holly) and my parents. It was conference Sunday and we had a great time. We have so much fun with his family and we can always count on lots of laughter and great stories!
Well more to come! I am hoping to post a new video for the first time wish me luck!

Little things...

I ran across this quote today...

"Each one of us can make a contribution. Too frequently we think we have to do spectacular things. Yet if we remember that the sea is actually made up of drops of water and each drop counts, each one of us can do our little bit where we are. Those little bits can come together and almost overwhelm the world. Each one of us can be an oasis of peace." - Desmond Tutu

I love the idea that we can all make a contribution whether it is within our families, our communities, our church, our work environment or just for ourselves. I learned from a dear friend this past weekend that we can all make a difference and create abundance in our lives while doing the normal everyday things we always do --just by thinking bigger.

A little over a year ago we heard from this same friend about a young man in our ward that was struggling. He was failing at school, didn't have a lot of friends and his life at home was not going well either, there was no regular homework schedule or dinner as a family. My friend decided to find a way to help. After discussing with many friends and our Bishop, she decided to have this young man come to 4 families homes for dinner and receive help with homework Monday through Thursday. She thought, if this young man had a regular environment of sitting down for dinner with another family and working on homework every night it would help him improve his grades and see how other families enjoy dinner together.

When we first moved into the ward Brad and I were Garett's Sunday school teachers. We just loved him immediately and he reminded me so much of my little brother Lance. He also reminded Brad of when he was younger and the struggles he faced as a youth. So when Emily told us about her plan, we jumped at the chance to help Garett and he started coming to our home every Thursday night. We would eat dinner together, discuss his day, family life, etc... then help him with his homework. We learned a great deal from Garett and have grown to love him even more. He has so much potential and by seeing that other people cared about him, he was able to do better in school, enjoy being with his family more, and gain some valuable friendships as well. Our ward split about 4 months ago and the new ward found a family to replace us on Thursday nights. We still keep in touch with him and Brad takes him fishing, which they both love!

It was such a blessing for us to take part in this. We found that by just adding another person to our regular routine of dinner, it was not as overwhelming. (Now helping with homework was a struggle at first... it has been a LONG time since either Brad or I were in school but we learned together!) There are many things we can all do as a part of our regular routines to help someone else. I am grateful we were available to help as long as we could.

Benefit Dinner and Concert

Just a quick post on the Benefit Dinner and Concert we attended Friday night for the South Valley Sanctuary. I can't believe I forgot to take pictures!

I am so glad we decided to support this event. The work they do at this shelter is so important for those who are victims of domestic violence in our community. The director and staff really have their hearts in the right place and are truly there to serve. They are still in need of donations or volunteers if you have a youth or enrichment activity coming up and need service opportunities please contact Heather at the shelter.

The evening started with appetizers and visiting with those in attendance. We had several friends and family there to visit with and it was great to get reacquainted with Tim's brother Tom and his wife Sandy. Brad grew up in the same ward as Tim's family and I went to high school with Tom.

We then took our seats and enjoyed salad while listening to a presentation by the director of the South Valley Sanctuary. Then Hilary's brother Mark (he is on the board of directors for the shelter) introduced her and we enjoyed our dinner and dessert listening to her sing familiar Christmas songs along with a couple songs from her new album. She did a fantastic job!

I am grateful for the opportunities all around us to serve others. Especially, during this time of year when there are so many "things or activities" that take our attention away from what we should be focusing on - gratitude and our Savior. This was a great way for us to start our Holiday celebrations.

I hope we will all be more aware of those who need a little extra this Holiday season. I am so grateful for this time of year to remind us of our many blessings and for the wonderful family and friends that surround us.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

Hilary Weeks - Giveaway!

Here it is- the 1st of two giveaways. If you read the previous post you know that you got a head start!

I don’t know about you but until 3 yrs ago I had no idea who Hilary Weeks was. I think as I look back I vaguely remember seeing her CD once at Deseret Book and wondering if we may be related. (We are not, at least not within 2 generations) Anyway, 3 yrs ago my mom gave me her “Christmastime” CD and it quickly became my favorite Christmas CD. I loved her voice and the unique arrangements of familiar Christmas songs, also the 3 songs she contributed were beautifully written.

I am fairly picky with my “church” music so I didn’t purchase any of her other CD’s ; worried I wouldn’t love them as much. Then just over 2 yrs ago we built our new home and moved into Tim & Hilary’s ward. Brad and Tim grew up in the same ward so that first week at church we actually sat by them in Sunday school. From day one they were very welcoming and kind, which instantly impressed me. Now at first, I didn’t really put two and two together, even after we met them that first week. Yes I finally figured out she was THE Hilary Weeks of my new favorite Christmas CD! But it wasn’t until a few months later when she released her “Collection” CD that I decided to buy it and see what it was like. After listening through a couple of times I became a fan, the lyrics of each song are amazing and instantly you know she has a strong testimony of her Savior. In the past 2 years we have grown to love and respect Tim & Hilary as well as their cute family. I also had the opportunity to serve with Hilary in the YW this past year and have seen her in several situations- spiritual, fun, stressful, etc... She is as genuine as she seems and is always looking for the good in a person or situation. She is so great at building people up and really wants to see others succeed, she is an amazing teacher and always taught with the spirit. I will always appreciate her encouragement and support while we served together. I am grateful to call her my friend.

I want others who are unfamiliar with her music to have the opportunity to find out more about who she is. Here is a link to hear some clips from Hilary’s new CD. (Look on the right side where it says “a closer look” then click “listen to clips”. ) Her new album is amazing and when you read her expression of gratitude in the front cover you know she has a deep testimony of her Heavenly Father and trusts him completely. Her music truly speaks to your heart.

In her own words… “God will never let us down. It took me fifteen years and seven CDs to learn that. While creating my first six album projects I spent many tear-filled nights wondering if I could write songs that were good enough. Was I good enough? As I began writing for this CD I came to the realization that, though all along I may not have been good enough, God has been. He has made up the difference. Every time. As I approached this seventh project I decided to trust Heavenly Father completely. I was not going to worry about whether or not the songs would come—I just believed they would. And they did. Turns out, this is the most pleasant writing experience I have ever had. The late-night tears were replaced with trust and I felt God's hand in every song. He is there for us. And He will never let us down. I believe that. May these songs carry that witness to your heart.”

Many of my friends have mentioned not knowing who Hilary was. I thought, what better way to help those in blog land get to know her music than a giveaway! So here is the deal, Hilary has generously agreed to giveaway an autographed copy of her new album “If I Only Had Today”. Depending on how many entries I receive we may also have a 2nd prize, her “Christmastime CD”. It is almost Christmas right? And I am feeling generous!

In order to be entered in the drawing, you must make a comment on this post before Sunday morning Nov 16th. I will pick the winner out of a hat and they will be announced Sunday evening. Good luck! Feel free to tell your friends!

Here is another link to her website and blog.. go check it out.

Precious moments...

In the 6 years we have been married, I have spent almost 5 of those years in the young women program in our church and I have loved every minute of it! My first calling in the young women program was as Camp Director and I had 3 of the best youth leaders anyone could ask for. They were organized, had great ideas and were such a joy to be around. They made me a better person even though I was supposed to be influencing them. Shortly after camp I was called as the Laurel advisor (16-18yr old class) with these same 3 girls and 2 others. Again, they taught me more than I taught them.

We have kept in touch over the last couple years since we moved from that ward and were able to attend Lindsay's wedding last summer and attended Kelsey's wedding last weekend Sept 27, 2008. What a blessing it is to see two of the girls I served reach the ultimate goal of marrying in the Temple.

This is Kelsey and her husband Bryan.. they met in Cedar City while attending SUU.

Alli and I waiting for the happy couple to come out after the ceremony. She is still dating around and is on the ballroom dance team at SUU. She will finish college in a year and so far is planning to go on a mission. She has always reminded me of myself when I was her age. (throughout young women's and now) She is darling!

L-R Alli, Me, Kelsey and Lindsay.

The 3 girls have also stayed in touch, it was so great to catch up with all of them after the ceremony and at the dinner that afternoon. They have always made such great decisions growing up I remember having conversations about kissing and at the time they were all 17 and 2 of the 3 had never been kissed. So many great memories... love these girls!

Here is Lindsay's little sister Ashley. After serving in the laurels with Lindsay for a few months I was called as 1st counselor working with the Mia Maids (14-16yr old's) and worked with Ashley for over a year and a half before we moved. She is already a senior in high school! Crazy how time flies!

This is Kelsey's little brother Caleb who is now 17 but was one of Brad's 1st scouts at age 13 when Brad was Scout Master. Boy has he grown! He and Ashley are not dating now but plan to marry after Caleb gets home from his mission.. they are best friends! hee hee

Precious moments that will forever live in my memory..... Any precious moments you would like to share??

Clumsy??

Well, last week was girl's camp in our ward. We had such a great time and I hope to blog about it later this week. All the girls got a long great and the leaders had a blast!

But first I want to tell you about my fun Monday! Ok.. not really fun, but eventful. I have mentioned before my need to be efficient and so as luck would have it - I was walking out of our house on Monday for work. I had a protein shake in one hand, my work bag over one shoulder, my lunch bag in my other hand, and another bag with some decor items I needed to return that day in the same hand as my lunch. Anyway, as I was trying to close the door behind me, because why make 2 trips when you can carry everything and try to close the door in one trip? I have completed this task several times before but Monday was different. I had a thought as I was stepping into the darkness that I should make 2 trips but I am stubborn and said to myself, self I can do this! Well, I couldn't -not this time.

So I proceeded out the door and ended up somehow turning the heal of my shoe and falling down our concrete stairs in the garage. Yes...protein shake ALL over the place, bags flying, oh and I forgot I was holding my iPOD which luckily survived the fall. You may think.. that sounds horrible, well I am ok but my ankle was not to happy! I was in a lot of pain and again am stubborn so I told Brad that I would just sit for a while and see how I felt, but after 20min and some ice I still couldn't put pressure on my foot. Brad talked me into visiting a doctor, (we have a foot Dr. in our ward) so he called the office and they got me in right away. After several x-rays and discussion with the good Dr. it was determined that I have a stress fracture on my ankle. (Picture below)
I have the pleasure of wearing a boot on my foot/leg for the next 4 weeks. I was supposed to travel to LA for business in a couple weeks but with not being able to walk very far the airport is the last place I want to be. I also have an activity with our youth involving water skiing and floating the Provo River in a couple weeks. Hopefully, I can at least float the river with a brace. Cross your fingers! I have been trying to see God's hand more in my life and I am struggling to see the blessing in this. Maybe it was the lesson to listen to the spirit when he says to make 2 trips or maybe there is a greater one. I will have to wait and see! Anyone have any thoughts?

I also found this quote today. "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain!" It fit perfect in my week and I hope you all enjoy the new perspective!

Father of the Bride....

Ok... did anyone else just LOVE this movie when they were younger? The first time I saw it, I remember thinking.. I hope I meet a guy like Brian MacKenzie he is soooo cute! I was a senior in high school when this movie came out and well.. it took me 12 more years to find my "Brian MacKenzie" but it was well worth the wait!

So, last Thursday while I was walking around the Gateway mall I saw and said "hi" to George Newbern (Brian MacKenzie, pictured below). Very uneventful but brought back some great memories of watching this movie over an over during my early twenties. BTW: He still looks pretty good! Apparently he is filming a new movie here in Utah.
I just thought I would share this random tidbit of info as a blog entry this week. I do have most of the pictures uploaded from Day 2 of our Maui trip but haven't had a chance to get them posted. Hopefully by Thursday.
As cheesy as this is...does anyone else have a star sighting to share?

May 06, 2008

Claim to fame? Well ....not really.

Ok.. so I keep getting bugged that I haven't posted for a while. I have several things in my head that I just need to get onto paper (into a post). We have been out of town for a week but I told my friends last night that I would post today so here it is.

**Disclaimer - If you find this boring or lame you can blame Linda and Melissa!! ***

Random fact about me. My friend Julie and I were in church one Sunday, I want to say at least 6 years ago but it may have been 7 years. Anyway, one of the photographers for the Ensign and other church magazines etc.. was in church because his son spoke (it was a singles ward). He came up to us and asked us if we wanted to be in some pictures he was taking for the church website. We said sure and after a couple hours of photos we were famous! Well, not really but our pictures were posted on the church website under the "handheld PDA" link..this was when handheld devices were just becoming popular. I wasn't sure if we were still on the website I haven't checked for a couple years- so I thought I would check.. lo and behold we are still there! There used to be 3 or 4 pictures of us in different scenes on Trax but now only the one remains...
Here is the link in case you want to take a gander... Enjoy!

Stay tuned for Cinco de Mayo pictures, Our trip to Hawaii and who knows what else.....

Please take time to comment and share a random fact about yourself!

Jenny "Alice" Tyra Fitzgerald Weeks - Grandma..

I have been meaning to post about my Grandma Weeks for the past month and haven't gotten around to it. She was the last living grandparent I had and thought I would do a post as a tribute to my oldest living relative. She actually passed away yesterday morning March 31st and while this is later than I wanted it is well over due.

My grandma died at the age of 94, she still lived on her own, in the home that my grandpa built many years ago. She had just bought a new SUV just over a month ago... yes she was still driving!! She wouldn't drive as much in the winter but then decided to get an SUV so she could get out of her driveway when the snow plows pushed snow in her way!

Isn't she so cute? This picture was taken just 3 months ago at her home.

Here are some of my favorite memories...

I had the benefit of living next door to grandma from birth until I was 10yrs old and there aren't many memories from my childhood that do not involve grandma. I remember spending countless hours at grandma's playing with toys downstairs or playing upstairs with grandma pick up sticks or monkey's in a barrel.

If anyone asks "what time is it?" My first instinct is.. "half past kissing time and time to kiss again!". Luckily, I catch myself most of the time but it always brings a smile to my face remembering countless times grandma would tell me that growing up.

I remember always feeling welcome at grandma's house. Within seconds, it seemed, you were greeted with one of grandma's famous hugs. The one that left you wondering if you could still breathe afterwards but wouldn't trade for anything! As kids we would always go to grandma's after school to get a treat. She always had candy in her candy jar, freshly baked cookies and milk or one of my personal favorites - cabbage with peanut butter! She would also help out with homework on occasion.. we would go over to her house to use her encyclopedias and she would always be interested to see what we were learning and offer to help. I will always treasure those memories after school.

Grandma always taught us the importance of eating healthy. She always told us to eat a tomato a day and that would keep the Dr. away. She was always eating a well balanced meal with plenty of milk, veggies and fruits. She loved to garden as well, and I remember many summer days helping grandma freeze corn or can peas.

I took piano lessons for 3 yrs and would practice at grandma's house every morning at 6:30am, she would always have the light on for me and come downstairs to make sure everything was just right, she would set the timer upstairs and come down to let me know when I was finished. There were times that she would sit and listen to my playing and offer her praise as to how quickly I was learning.

Everyone loved and knew grandma. Her and grandpa were pillars of Smithfield, UT and everyone knew who they were. Anytime I run into anyone that is from the Smithfield/Tremonton area and ask them if they know George or Alice Weeks they always do. They also say what wonderful people they were - how they were a friend to all and were always willing to serve others.

Some of my favorite memories are while we were camping as a family. We camped A LOT growing up. I remember going into Smithfield canyon and hiking through the creek in our shoes with grandma. She would always pick out a good walking stick and we would do the same. I remember following her around in the creek looking at the fish and finding smooth rocks and sea shells to take back to camp. Grandma loved camping and going on nature walks!

I also loved watching her and grandpa dance. They were amazing! I remember being little and wanting to grow up to dance just like grandma. I have developed a love of dancing (Ballroom and Latin mainly) over the years and am slowly (very slowly) trying to convince Brad to love it as well!

When I was called to be YW president in my ward grandma was so excited! She always loved the time she served in the YWMIA program and gave me some great advice. She said to love the girls unconditionally, treat them with respect and always pray for them. She was always a great example of service and always magnified her callings.

Most of all I remember the way I felt when I was around her. I always knew grandma loved me and wanted me to be happy. Grandma was always such a strong, independent woman that knew what she wanted but yet always looked for ways to help and serve others. I like to think I have developed some of those same characteristics just being around her.

This is such a classic Grandma Alice facial expression!

Alice Fitzgerald Weeks Obituary
Alice Fitzgerald Weeks passed away peacefully March 31, 2008. She was born Sept. 30, 1913, and was 94 years of age. She was the oldest of three children born to James Fitzgerald and Helma Malin. After growing up in Salt Lake City, she moved with her family to Smithfield, Utah, where she spent the remainder of her life. Alice married George Riches Weeks April 16, 1930, in the Logan LDS Temple, and they enjoyed 73 loving years together. They raised their family of four sons: Richard Clair (deceased), Stanley, Darwin and Ronald. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions throughout the years, such as president and counselor in ward and stake YWMIA, and various Relief Society and Primary positions. She loved to sing and joined the choir at age 14 and continued for over 60 years. Together with her husband George, they served as dance directors on a ward, stake and district level for over 20 years, literally teaching thousands of youth and adults the art of dancing. They served as dance directors until the church discontinued the dance program. Also with her husband they served at the Logan LDS Temple, where she loved assisting many new brides as they sealed their eternal marriages. Alice received the Certificate of Merit along with the love of her life, George, for their service to Smithfield and surrounding areas in teaching the art and appreciation of dance in conjunction with the National Bicentennial Celebration. Alice considered all she knew to be her friend and they reciprocated. She loved her grandchildren and they appreciated her special hugs and the excitement she expressed when seeing them. She was a pillar of strength in caring for others, especially her beloved husband. At the age of 90, she accomplished a lifelong dream to visit Ireland, her father's ancestral home, and was an inspiration to her special relatives and all she met. At 94, she had achieved the age of her husband at his passing four years earlier. She is survived by three sons, Stanley (Irene) Weeks, Pleasant View, Utah, Darwin (JoAnn) Weeks, Indio, Calif., and Ronald (Louise) Weeks, Mapleton, Utah. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Clair (Margie) Weeks, Clearfield, Utah; and a sister, Irene Zuppann, and brother, James Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, April 4, 2008, in the Smithfield 10th Ward Chapel, 345 E. 300 South, with Bishop Peter Krusi conducting. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main, Smithfield, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday morning at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at http://www.nelsonfuneralhome.com/.

My mom shared this scripture that so accurately describes my grandma.

Proverbs 31: 10-31

10 ¶ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Memories I forgot but my mom remembered.....

Mom was very frugal. Living during the depression taught her the importance of not throwing anything away and I mean anything! She even cleaned and saved plastic bags and Reynolds wrap! To this day if you look in her kitchen drawers you will find evidence of this.

Mom made our daughters the most beautiful dresses and the amazing thing about mom’s sewing skill was that if you couldn't find a pattern for the dress you wanted made, all you had to do was to show or draw a picture and she would sew it up more beautiful than the picture. She loved to sew and crochet. Mom made beautiful quilts and Afghans. Every grandchild has an afghan or a quilt that grandma made especially for them. I think the most treasured gift she gave her family was after dad died she made pillows out of his suits and ties and gave them to everyone. Every time we look at the pillow the memories come flooding in of the great times we shared at their home.

Mom was a great example of how a spouse is to cleave to her husband, putting him above all others. Her love and devotion to dad in his last years was a shining example to her prosperity of giving undying service and love to her husband.

Most of all I am grateful to mom for the wonderful son she raised who honors his priesthood and has a strong testimony of the gospel. He works hard, has integrity, and loves and supports his family, all values that were taught by his mother. He is an example to his children and a great loving support to me.

There are not enough words to express my love and admiration for this great woman, I will miss her dearly. I am comforted knowing our family is forever and that she is having a joyous reunion with my Grandpa George and her son, uncle Clair. Thanks grandma for all the wonderful memories!

A woman's influence...

My sister sent this to me today and I thought it would be a great post!

This past week has been a bit emotional for my family, we still have a long road ahead but know as in all trials this too will pass. I appreciate all of you that have supported my family and I this past week, with words of encouragement and many prayers. I am so lucky to have such wonderful women in my life, both as family and friends.

Thanks for your influence and love!

THIS SAYS IT ALL
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there,
no matter how much time and how
many miles are between you.
A girl friend is never farther away
than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you
have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life
will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,
praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on
your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the
valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk
beside you...Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers,
Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended
family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called
womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or
sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still.

It isn’t defeat, but rather your mental attitude toward it, that whips you.

Quote for the day.... I ran across this recently and thought it would be a perfect post for today!

"There are many things in life that you cannot control, but you can always control your attitude toward them. Defeat is never permanent unless you allow it to be so. When you have a positive attitude, you will recognize failure for the impostor that it is and realize that it is really a learning experience, a valuable lesson that will help you succeed with the next attempt. Ask yourself: What could I have done differently that would have altered the outcome? What can I do in the future to minimize problems and mistakes? What did I learn from this experience that I can put to good use next time? If you approach obstacles and setbacks with a positive attitude, you will be surprised how quickly you can turn defeat into victory. " -Napoleon Hill

I have been trying to have a more positive attitude lately and have noticed a big difference in how I react to even the smallest issues. It is not easy always looking at the positive side of things but it definitely takes less energy!

I have started asking myself... what am I supposed to learn from this experience? Sometimes it frustrates me not knowing what I should be learning right at that moment.. but occasionally you have to get through it first and yet the lesson still may not come for a while after that.

Most of you know we have been trying to start our family for close to 4 yrs now. We still have no idea what we are supposed to learn from this experience, but we sure have enjoyed the journey! Brad and I have had the opportunity to serve in various callings in our church that involve the youth and have been very blessed to develop the relationships we have with the other leaders and youth we have served. I am confident the Lord has a plan for us and he will allow us to grow emotionally and spiritually from this experience. I know after all we can do the Lord will provide a way!

Anyone else have times like this?
